Spring Wood
Location
Lount, Ashby de la Zouch.
General description
One of our more “Carpy” venues, it has a good head of smaller stockies with some lumps swimming about also.
X2 25lb “target fish” and X5 more carp at 15-17lb were stocked 2018/2019 season to add to the bigger/older fish already in there (we’ve had it on the Ashby ticket for 20+ years!)
Some nice mixed bags to be had on top of the carp with some nice Crucians, some smaller Skimmers, the odd elusive Tench, and some Roach and Golden Rudd present among other species. Catches are made up predominantly of “match sized”carp from 2,5lb up to 7lbish as the average “stamp”.
Ide were added winter of 2020, which are already proving a popular addition.
x2 solar aerators installed 2020 which help improve water quality as well as dissolved oxygen levels within the water… these carp fight hard(!)
Quite a shallow lake, shallowest end being towards pegs 1/25. Real “hit and hold” stuff next to the thick beds of reeds!
Most baits work well due to the mixed bags… A bit silty in places- paste, or meat/corn over pellets seems to work well for larger carp match/pleasure weights.
Night fishing is allowed WITH A NIGHT PERMIT ONLY.

The Environment Agency netted the pond for us December 2019 and it was quite clear to see the very(!) large head of smaller, stunted silvers that were in there at the time which we were advised to “crop” or thin-out to improve the fishing quality.
Already early signs after doing this are showing this to be an extremely beneficial exercise, with a larger stamp of fish now being caught during both pleasure sessions as well as our club matches.
